Our First Lyme Disease Conference, June 5/6 2012

Irelands first Lyme Disease Conference was held in Dublin this year and was a huge success!

June 2012 brought Tick Talk Ireland’s inaugural conference on Lyme Disease to Dublin shores. The conference was part funded by the National Lottery via the Department of Health & was CPD approved. It was a huge success & we had wonderful speakers including Regional Vet Lab Manager Mícheál Casey, Univ of Cork Tick Researcher Dr Eoin Healy, Lab Expert from IGeneX Labs Dr Jyotsna Shah & Dr Paul Nolan, a GP from Co. Mayo.

The first day focused on prevention, testing & tick-borne infection in animals with the first talk of the day presented by Tick Talk Ireland. On the second day we covered more on testing, plus borrelia & the brain, supportive therapies, herbal treatments, research in effective antibiotics & biofilms plus results from a UK & Ireland survey. Our speakers on the day were Dr Joseph Jemsek (Jemsek Clinics, USA), Dr Eva Sapi (Univ Newhaven), Dr Armin Schwarzbach (Infectolabs/Borreliose Centrum, Germany), Dr Jean Monro (Breakspear Hospital, UK), Nicola Darrell (Herbalist from Cork, Ireland) & Ms Kate Bloor (from Lyme Research UK & Ireland).

On the eve of the first day we were treated to entertainment by a volunteer group who came into play traditional Irish music plus Stone Trigger came to perform some of their tracks including ‘Cry On’, a song being released to help raise money for Lyme charities.

On the eve of the second day Nutramedix hosted a workshop on supportive herbal therapies for Lyme & co-infected patients. Studies were presented by Dr Schwarzbach & Dr Sapi.

In all the conference was a resounding success & we attracted patients, naturopaths, forestry commission & inland fishery officers, herbalists, health & safety officers plus vets & GPs.
