Just & Appropriate Treatment for Chronic Lyme Disease Sufferers

There are many issues surrounding Lyme and other tick-borne diseases ranging from lack of education and awareness to miss-treatment/misdiagnosis of patients. A lack of prevention awareness can lead to infections that could be avoided. Current medical treatment and diagnosis guidelines for acute and chronic cases of Lyme disease should be updated as a matter of urgency to reflect the latest medical research and findings.

Once 10,000 signatures are collected, they will be presented to the HSE and the Minister for Health requesting immediate positive action in combating this global epidemic.

Experts predict cases of Lyme disease are likely to grow rapidly due to global warming

What is Lyme Disease?

Lyme disease is the fastest growing vector-borne illness in the world. It is an infectious disease caused by the spiral-shaped bacteria Borrelia Burgdorferi and is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected tick. It is said to be the first epidemic caused by climate change due to a longer season for the infected ticks (learn more here). Originally discovered in the 1970s in Lyme, Connecticut (hence the name) the infection has now spread throughout most of Northern America, into Canada and across to Europe, Russia, China, Japan and Australia. Ireland has also seen a concerning increase of infections over recent years.
